St Louis Symphony Announces Appointment of New Principal Bassoon

Music Director David Robertson and the St. Louis Symphony announced the appointment of the orchestra’s new Principal Bassoon, Andrew Cuneo, who will join the Symphony at the start of the 2011-2012 season.

Cuneo is currently the Principal Bassoon of the Louisville Orchestra. Prior to joining the Louisville Orchestra in 2010, he held posts as Principal Bassoon of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra and the Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra. A finalist in the 2008 Gillet-Fox Competition, Cuneo has also been both a Guest Artist (2010) and a Fellow (2008, 2009) at the Tanglewood Music Center. He received his M.M. from Rice University, where he was a student of Benjamin Kamins, and his B.M. from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he was a student of Bernard Garfield and Daniel Matsukawa.

Andrew Cuneo replaces former Principal Bassoon George Berry, who retired at the end of the 2009-2010 season, concluding a 47-year career with the St. Louis Symphony.
